If you’re not putting yourself out there every day, risking rejection and feeling like you just might die, you aren’t really doing the work.

You’re just performing, playing the part of an artist.

In order to live a life worthy of the calling you’ve received, you must do something that scares you. That’s how you create art.

So… are you in?

Your voice begins to slip away from me.
Life is like that. Death is like that.

—Marilyn Hacker, from Paragraphs For Hayden

Never regret anything you did because it was once what you wanted, but do regret something you never do because you would never get to know how it turns out to be.

Not everything happens for a reason. Sometimes life just sucks.

Indeed, maybe sometimes life just sucks.

Don’t get attached to moments. Good or bad, they all pass.

I’m not sure what I’ll do, but— well, I want to go places and see people. I want my mind to grow. I want to live where things happen on a big scale.

The great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do

…Sometimes I really think that all I have left within me are just sadness, anger, and self-loathing. Those three form a triangular relationship: sadness leads to anger, and being angry at everything leads just makes me hate myself for being such a terrible person.

—J.T.

It’s true that sadness leads to anger, and we start blaming ourselves for everything, but sometimes it’s not our fault. We can’t blame ourselves for everything. Sometimes we’ve done our best, but somehow it doesn’t turn out the way we want it to be. Even though it doesn’t turn out the way we want, it doesn’t mean it’s the end of everything. I think everything will eventually turn out to be fine if we look the other around. Sometimes life has its own plans, and we just have to go with the flow.

Get out of bed, make a hot drink and go outside. You owe yourself that much. Maybe you still cry in far too many public bathrooms, but I swear, you stay a few seconds less every time. Smile at strangers if it’s all you can do, know that life doesn’t start when the sun rises or the credits roll but when you decide it’s time to go after what you deserve, and you deserve everything because we are alive both only once and a million times every day and every minute is something new to learn and someone new to love, and if it all crashes and burns as it so often does cling on to hope through it all and don’t ever ever ever let it go. Start your life again whenever you need to. Repeat after me: it is not yet the end. It is not yet the end. It is not yet the end.

A Greater Reality

I usually don’t like thinking about the future. I mean, let’s face it, you can’t predict what’s going to happen. But sometimes, the thing you didn’t expect is what you really wanted after all. Maybe the best thing to do is just stop trying to figure out where your going, and enjoy where your at.

Some very personal advice I got today from extremely successful people after a bad day

blua:

  • "It doesn’t matter if you’re being vulnerable or ridiculous to others, in the course of your life you will always get back what you give. If not from the end you put into, then from another end. You shouldn’t be afraid to feel and be compassionate. Allow life to shape you and grow you."
  • "Even if you have a broken heart, you have plans and goals. You can turn the things you wish for into reality. Go ahead and take loans out, even if it takes you forever to pay them off. Life has been very hard for me too Gian, but in a few years things will turn out better. Being in your twenties is going to be one of the hardest times you’ll experience. It’ll really help you figure out what’s going on and what life means to you. You have to appreciate your parents while you still have them, you’re going to find the key to your success in them because you can’t live a happy life if you’re not at peace with them."
  • "No matter where you are, you have to relax and have fun. I know you’re smarter than most people, I can see it in your eyes and the way you listen to peoples needs. You’re unique and understanding, but you can’t kill yourself over anything, unless it’s at the very root of your heart. Don’t bend over backwards for anything other than what is ingrained inside of you, because your heart is what holds the map. Don’t listen to others, don’t focus on what your frontal cortex tries to tell you. The panic, the fear, the desire can confuse you, always go with what your morals tell you because nothing will speak louder of you."
  • "Not all of us are given the same opportunities in life, and I can tell you a little secret I learned over the years. I lost my family when I was young, they passed at a very young age and my only sibling is states away from me. Life has been very difficult for me, but I found that working hard has led me to a beautiful place where all my colleagues have been through the same hardship that gave them the will to be someone greater. I see that in you. I have been pushing for you with your managers, every time I visit here I notice you. All of our clients run to you for help in a crisis, all of our workers look up to you, even though you’ve been working here for less time. You’re going to go very far in life, not because it’s the cliche thing to say, but because you’ve got it in you. Some people are just blessed with a well-off family and an easy course, but they waste away at the opportunity. Don’t grow cold, stay compassionate, it will make you friends who will take you to other places. If you stay compassionate you will attract compassionate people, don’t give up now because everyone seems harsh. There is a place for people like you."
